Joanne Ponders is the silky smooth voice of the contemporary group “NightMoves”. For as long as Jaanne can remember her Sunday mornings were filled with the sounds of Big Band Jazz sounds and live Jazz vocalists before she left for Sunday School and Church Service. Her Father was a huge jazz fan. She eventually became interested in jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Sarah Vaughn, Jo Stafford, Carmen McRae and so many others. It was the flow of the music with the delivery of the lyrics, how these different vocalists made you feel, invited you in to feel their passion and love for this music call jazz. She begin singing in church choirs throughout most of her youth and continued to today. Though she loves gospel music, jazz is in her heart. She always had dreams of singing jazz in a bar or café on open mic night, instead she got a wish of a lifetime; she told an acquaintance about her love for jazz who introduced her to a friend of his who had a jazz group. The group’s name you guessed it, “NightMoves”, a new world jazz group on the scene looking for that voice that would take their music to new places. The rest as they say is history; Joanne is the voice of “NightMoves”. She brings a smooth romantic vibe to the music of nightmoves and with her presence makes “nightmoves” one of the Maryland, Washington D.C. area’s new flavor in the air on the music scene. Nightmoves debut CD, entitled Rhythms of the Heart features Joanne on a few of the tunes, can we talk about it, rhythms of the heart and nightmoves. Also, the group’s direction is steadily heading towards new frontier in the jazz world. They are perform songs from all over the world, brazilian, Latin, Argentina, Africa and India, so you can say their music is heading towards a world jazz venue.
